Greek Theater Mask Project

Travel back to Ancient Greece and discover how actors used expressive masks to bring myths and legends to life on stage. In this creative project, students design a Greek theater mask inspired by one of six famous mythology characters: Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo, Aphrodite, Medusa, or Dionysus. Every mask is decorated with meaningful symbols that help tell each character’s story.
The lesson includes printable mask templates for a budget-friendly option, or students can create their artwork using inexpensive blank paper masks purchased separately. With easy-to-follow instructions, mythology reference pages, and a large collection of printable decorations, it’s simple to create impressive masks while exploring the art, theater, and legends of Ancient Greece.
Perfect for classrooms, co-ops, museums, libraries, and family art time, this hands-on project encourages creativity while introducing students to Greek mythology, symbolism, and theatrical traditions. The finished masks are wonderful for classroom displays, dramatic performances, or imaginative storytelling activities.
